The most important and necessary step before even thinking to start working online is to create a verified PayPal account. It is one of the most trusted and safe mode of receiving and sending payments online. Mostly, we use our credit/debit cards for sending payments while working online. But it becomes difficult when we have to receive overseas payment. This becomes extremely easy by using services like PayPal.
Now lets get started.
Creating a PayPal account –
Open PayPal in your browser. If you have already signed-up then click on the login button and enter your username and password. Press CONTINUE. You will find the login tab in the top right corner of the window.
For those who are new to PayPal, first you need to sign-up. Click on the sign-up tab. You will be asked to select an individual or a business. Select whichever is applicable. Click continue.
Select your Country and enter your email address and chose a password. Be sure to use your correct email address as this will be your PayPal email address also. Now, enter your personal information in the next window, your name which is the same as in your PAN Card, your address and so on. Press create account tab.
You will now receive an email with an activation/confirmation link, click on the link and login using your credentials.
In the next window, you will be asked to link your credit/debit card. If you want to link your card then enter the details and click continue. Or you can skip this step for now by selecting I will link my card later.
Linking your bank account will allow you to receive payments on the go. But to send payment for services, you will have to make sure that you do the following :
- Entering your PAN card number
- Confirming your E-mail
- Adding your local bank account to PayPal ( your payments which you receive will be automatically withdrawn to this account ).
- Selecting a Purpose Code ( strictly necessary as per Indian Regulations ).
Now go to settings and enter your PAN card number. Once verified (which takes 2-3 seconds), go ahead and select your Purpose Code.
For any transaction through PayPal, you will need to select a Purpose Code from the given list. Select whichever code fits for you. This code will appear on your transaction details. You cannot skip this step as per Indian Regulations. However, you can change your purpose code according to your type of transaction whenever necessary.
Now you are all set to link your Bank Account. Add your bank details ( Name, Account number, IFSC Code ).
The verification generally takes 4-5 working days. PayPal will deposit two small amounts in your bank account. Once you get those amounts, you will have to enter the same amount which PayPal deposited to confirm the verification.
There you go ! You just added your bank account to PayPal.
You can now add your credit/debit card in the same way. Most of the Indian Debit Cards are unable to get linked to PayPal. If your card is not added then try contacting your Bank whether it supports PayPal services.
Be clear of the fact that you can only get money in your account by linking your bank account. If you want to buy any service or product through PayPal then, you will have to add your card. While, the money you get through it, is automatically withdrawn to your bank account.
I hope that this post will be helpful for you. If you have any questions or want to share some more information related to PayPal, kindly let me know through your comments.
